Project land a "real job" has been in full swing for about five months now and, as a result, I've had two job interviews (one was a complete joke, the other was over the phone for a position I really didn't want but applied to anyways) and a handful of "we'll-get-back-to-you-if-anything-becomes-available" emails. But for the most part I just haven't heard back from employers. which is THE WORST. I would happily appreciate a "sorry-you-just-don't-meet-our-current-qualifications" rather than silence.
The insane amount of hope I have when the red light blinks on my blackberry, thinking that it's finally THE EMAIL from an employer who is offering me THE JOB, would put Obama to shame. I've had one of my cousins (who is a career counselor at a college in NJ) revamp my resumé and offer me some sanity-saving advice but I can't always control the feelings frustration/desperation that creep into my brain and have me in tears and one step away from hanging off the cliff of crazy.
Speaking of said desperation, the current sucktastic state of the economy was clearly on display today at my old campus' career fair. The room was a sea of black suits and leather-bound portfolios containing the resumés of current students and alumni. Within minutes of the fair starting, the room was filled to the max and the organizers were calling for backup.
Unfortunately, in situations like this, it's hard to make the necessary "connections" and conversate normally because there are twelve other people crowded around trying to get a word in and give their best sales pitch. Still I handed out my resumé to as many people as I could get to and picked up some
Also there weren't that many organizations offering any PR/Communications positions which was kind of sucky. If you are or looking to get in the engineering field in North Carolina, the job market is your oyster.
As always I remain hopeful and am open to any advice anyone can can offer.

I'm sorry that you are having to go through this dreadful process. I wish you all the best and I hope something happens for you. Any company would be lucky to have you!
man that is never a fun process, but you'll find something! good luck!
First, I love your layout.
Second, have you tried the non-profit sector at all? I found a sales/training job with a non-profit and it was great experience for me.
Third, I really hope you find a good fit soon. Job searching is so annoying.
When I left uni, I was unemployed for four months, got a temp job for a couple of months then was unemployed for six months so i know how frustrating it is. All the best in your search. :)
It took me three months, so I know what you are going through - though on a lesser scale... It's tough. You just have to keep trying, and unfortunately the economy is heavily against you. It'll happen eventually.
Have you tried looking outside of the Charlotte area? That might be your best bet. 'Cause I've looked into PR and other Comm. options around here and there's nothing. Zip. Nada. What about getting your masters?
Melissa & Katelin - thank you so much for the encouragement!
Akirah - thanks, I was browsing around for layouts and this one was practically screaming my name! and the nonprofit sector is actually my main career choice and I haven't had any luck finding a job there =/
P - I was thinking about getting a temp job but I really hate the fact that they're temporary! I'll just keep looking.
Mindy - yeah this economy is NOT a joke. Um, I thought about looking elsewhere but then that would mean getting an apartment, possibly a roommate and I'm not ready for all of that just yet. I LOVE living at home.
I'm sorry it's been taking so long for you to find something. I know it'll work out, it just really takes time for the right thing to find you. OMG your resume as a ho, holy crap I started laughing.
My resume is a bit of a whore too.
Why can't I just send people my blog and be like SEE! AWESOMENESS? HIRE ME.
